Roxana Snedeker Photography is TWO!!!

I remember how excited I was that day, I was so excited about opening my Facebook account for my photography business and post to the world my brand new blog site I had acquired the week before, I had it made…. after all, that’s all I needed to be in business right? A Facebook presence and a website….boy was I wrong!!!!!!!

January 2012 came and with it I begin this journey that is Roxana Snedeker Photography, I had been researching for about 8 months everything and anything I could about photography, I joined several groups on facebook, followed many “big names” in the industry and took all of their free tutorials and tips I could, when January came and I “thought” I had learned everything I could to be in business, and I went with it, I called and emailed everyone, surely my phone and email account (under my brand new domain from go-daddy) were going to be getting hits soon from people wanting my services, me and my entry level camera with my one lens were ready for them… Ay Ay ay, I was so naive.

When a couple of months passed and I realized my phone was working just right (people were just not calling) then I started to realized just how difficult  it was going to be to get the people calling….it was a process I had to learn the hard way.

With time, I started taking pictures of friends, and their friends, and their friend’s friends….if only they could just give me the opportunity so I could show them what I could do, and when they finally did… the unthinkable happened, my pictures were nowhere close to the ones I had seen in baby magazines, they were actually the opposite, but how could that be?… All those 8 months studying, researching, watching you-tube videos, going to the library and looking at photography magazines…what was I doing wrong?

Surely, I like to think that this is a very familiar case for the majority of photographers out there, see… my biggest mistake 2 years ago was to think that I knew enough to make it and I was VERY wrong and far from the truth, in this2 short years I have learned so many things about “becoming” a photographer, starting a photography business is more than just pretty pictures (when you can actually make pretty pictures)…there is the business side of it, the “keeping all those receipts from each expense so you can claim at the end of the year” thing, major ops!!!!!!!taxes (augh!), the RIGHT equipment, the marketing (SEO WHO?) and I can keep on going here until my fingers get tired from typing.

I have been blessed by having people help me, either by helping babysit my kids when I have a session, by explaining any question I have about camera equipment or how to accomplish something in Photoshop, or simply by giving me some words of encouragement when I have one of those “I am not good enough” days (and I have had PLENTY of those) but I am still here, and I am still excited about photographing people and learning the ins and the outs of this business just like 2 years ago, I probably know a thing or two now about photography but I am nowhere close to where I want to be, I have goals now, they may or may not happen soon but I plan on enjoying the process anyway.

This month is the 2nd birthday of my little business, and with my imaginary carrot cake with digital candles on top I am sending  you ALL a big fat THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart!

To my wonderful husband, who has been there helping me in any way possible.

To Mom and Dad for funding my super awesome entry level camera at the very beginning.

To those crazy guys at the “Super Photographers” (aka Photographersonyoutube) exclusive private chat on facebook (you know who you are!) for ALL of your help and kind word, you have bee a huge part of this.

AND specially to every person that has believed in me enough to let me take your pictures in the last 2 years.

THANK YOU!

And because I know you are dying t see all my wonderful work of when I started, here… enjoy!

Here is a little preview of a couple of sessions of 2014 so far 🙂
